My OB/GYNE told me and my husband that our baby has hydronephrosis so they sent us to see a specialist last week. According to the specialist, instead of the fluid coming out of his uterus, there are some fluid that goes back up in his uterus due to an obstruction and as a result, fluids get stored in his kidneys. They measured the amount of fluid in his kidneys and it ranges from 6-7cm, according to the doctor, we don't have to worry that much as long as the fluid is NOT more than 10cm. So now, I have to see specialist (aside from my OB/GYNE) once a month to monitor the baby's kidneys through ultrasound as there is a tendency that the amount of fluid might get higher (i hope not) or lower. I am glad though that a specialist from Riley's Children Hospital will monitor the baby next month. They say that doctors from Riley's are good so at least I am a bit at ease knowing that the doctor that will monitor my baby is in good hands.
As a mom-to-be, it is sad to hear things like this. I wish that I am the one who is carrying my son's problem as I am old enough to say on what is wrong in me unlike a kid that will just cry and cry and couldn't say what's hurting him :(
My son's heart, brain etc. are all normal and we are thankful about that. The truth is he was so hyper the whole time we were at the specialist that's why the technician was having a hard time taking his ultrasound pics because he moves alot lol! The doctor said that that is a good sign :) My husband and I were happy to see our baby touching his ear and stretch his leg in my belly. Aww! that was so precious to see. It is nice to see on what is the baby doing in my belly hehe.

ReplyDeleteHi Diana,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I want to ask you something. Did they discovered that your daughter has only kidney on the 20th week of your pregnancy OR the 20th week after you gave birth?
I am on my 27th week of my pregnancy now and they found out the kidney problem of our baby on the 16th week of my pregnancy. We already went to 3 different hospitals (had ultrasound on each visit) and they all said that they found fluid in BOTH of his kidneys.
Thanks for all the advices you gave and I really appreciate it :) The truth is I am glad that I have someone I can talk to which had the same situation I am having now. Don't make me wrong, I am saddened about what happened to your daughter but you sharing advices of what you know and what you experienced makes my burden a bit lighter :)
If you don't mind, what happened to your daughter now? It is ok if you won't answer that question as i understand that that is a personal question :) I hope that her kidney condition is good now.
This is my first pregnancy and I know that you know the feeling of having a problem like this. I know that this is expensive that is why me and my husband are doing all the best we can to afford to pay all the medical bills. Thanks for the advice about the social services, I was actually thinking of how can we lessen our bills.
I am glad though that I have a husband that makes my everyday life sweeter :) He is nurse so I am happy that at least he can take care of me and our baby.
I am praying and hoping the best for you and your daughter. Again, thanks for dropping by on my blog and I like your blog too :)
Hi - I also found out my son has bilaterial hydronephrosis of the kidneys at 16 weeks, he is now 9 months. Please Please Please hook up with a good Urologist and Nephrologist and educate yourself but be careful because a lot of things out on the internet will scare you to death! Did you have a level 4 ultrasound? Stay on top of your doctors and be an advocate for your unborn child. One thing you should be aware of as you progess that if the kidneys continue to enlarge, they will begin to press on the baby's lungs causing distress to the baby. At 33 weeks I noticed a difference in movement and went into see my perionatologist who told me to go home and rest, that night the movement really stopped, I went back into the hospital and received steroid shots for his lungs and delivered 48 hours later and he was 6 weeks premature. He has endured 5 surgeries to repair the damage of the kidneys. I am not telling you this to scare you but to please please question every single doctor if you are not the bit most comfortable. It saved my son's life!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI had my amniocentesis done last month and the result was negative. BTW, what is that level 4 ultrasound? My doctor didn't require me or told me to have that level 4 ultrasound. All I know is that I am having 2D ultrasound every time I go to my baby's urologist.
Thanks for the warning and concern :) I know, it is hard for us moms to see our kid/s suffer. I am glad knowing that your son is ok now.
Great, glad the Amnio was negative. Level 4 was a high level ultrasound that allowed them measure more accurately. I also went in every 3 weeks after that for the 2D. It is also just as effective!

ReplyDeleteHey great blog and i wanted to share our good news with the same issue. My son was diagnosed the same way your child was. After VCUG's and countless ultrasounds over his first year the last ultrasound at 1 year old showed no reccurance of the hydronephrosis. What a relief after all we went through. There is hope and we'll pray your child has the same results. good luck and god bless... Kevin
ReplyDelete@Stacy, sorry, I just now read your comment. I hope everything is ok now with your little angel. He will be in my prayers tonight.
ReplyDelete@Kevin, that is great! I hope that everything will turn out good in my son's kidneys too. God bless!
