A New Dog

A guest posting compliments of Marissa Holan.

My husband has been recently started going away on business for several weeks of a time. Since he is gone so much he thinks I need some extra protection at our home. I told him since we have wireless security alarmsthat I'll be fine. However he thinks that it would be better if my mom came and stayed with me while he was gone. I told him this was not an option.

After much debate has been I agreed that we should get a dog for extra protection. My husband thought we should get a pit bull. I told him I didn't want to get a pit bull. We finally agreed to get a black lab. My husband thought that a black lab was big enough to scare off any potential intruders and I thought at the black lab was friendly enough to be a household pet.

We looked on line in the paper but cannot find any Black Labs for sale. When they are neighbor mentioned any lady of his church had black lab puppies for sale. He gave us the lady's phone number in we set up an appointment to meet the puppies. We found the cutest and friendliest of the bunch and took him home to be part of our family. We named our new puppy Lucky. Now my husband feels better and I am not so lonely when he is gone.

Chow Time!

Hubby, me and baby Zac went to a newly opened Chinese Restaurant near our house last Sunday. It's been awhile since the last time I ate Filipino food but since Chinese food is the closest taste to Filipino food then I didn't hesitate to visit Chinese Restaurant. My hubby usually orders General Tzo which is his favorite and I normally order different kinds of meal hehe.

While we were waiting on our order, I saw the waitress serving the order of the other customers. I noticed that the servings of their meal is huge. I told hubby "Wow! I don't think that I can eat it all". So we waited on our order to be served, and guess what? I ate it all! Lol! I can't believe how hungry I was hehe. After eating, we went home with stuffed belly and smile on our faces.

I want to thank my hubby for being so loving to me and our baby. I love him so :)

Photography Student Can Use Internet

Thanks to guest blogger Daniel Parsley for writing the post.

I am a student of photography and the hughsnetinternet really helps me out. One of the best websites I have come across as a photographer is Flickr. Flickr is an online photo sharing website and the best thing about it is that it gives me an outlet for my creativity. I can go on a photo shoot of my own and take thousands of pictures and Flickr gives me a place to share some of my best photos and to get feedback from other photographers about my photographs. Flickr sort of gives me a place to be able to share my creativitywith other photographers outside of the classroom. It is like doing homework and studying outside of class so that I can get better and really narrow it down when it comes to showing one completed and finished photograph for my class critique. It is really easy for me to upload my pictures to Flickr using the satellite internet. I just connect my camera to my computer using a cord or I stick the memory card into the computer and within minutes my entire photo session has been uploaded onto my computer. The Satellite Internet Broadbandmakes it possible for that entire album to be uploaded onto the internet in just a short period of time. I think Flickr is a great photo sharing website that every photographer should utilize.

Address Plaques

We visited the home of our relative who lives nearby us. Their house is one of the nicest houses in the neighborhood. One day as we were walking onto their property, I noticed the new super nice address plaque next to their mailbox. I told myself, Wow! this address plaque is really nice and it is made of Artisan Metal. Our relative told me that there are different styles, designs and shapes of address plaques and she said that they got theirs with free shipping.

We didn't spend much time at our relatives house that daybecause we had to go to our friend's house on the same day. When we reached the house of our friend, I noticed that they had a new address sign. I asked my friend where did they had gotten their address sign and she replied, "I ordered it online." She also added that you could personalize these address signs according to the style and design that you liked. After spending some time with my friend, I looked once again at their address sign before we left their house and admired it.

At the end of the day, I realized that the house address plaques add beauty, color and style to your home. I think that I should get one for our house because it would definitely add class and appeal to our home.

Charice Pempengco on GLEE

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Charice is joining Glee.

No, really this time!

When that rumor began to spread earlier this month via her loose-lipped manager, Charice herself shot it down via Twitter. “I just want to let you all know, that it’s not true that I’m going to be on Glee,” she said.

Well, it’s true now! Sources confirm to me exclusively that the international pop star is signed, sealed, and delivered to recur next season as a foreign exchange student whose killer vocals get Rachel (Lea Michele) contemplating murder.

Not literally, mind you.

So what do you think?

Father's Day 2010

Yesterday was the first Father's Day of my hubby. I am so glad that he was happy with the gifts I bought for him. I didn't buy expensive gifts. My gifts were just a shirt and a digital photo keychain. I was so happy when I saw how happy he was after opening his present. I really spent time researching on what gift should I give him for that special occasion. I usually buy him shirt, watch and some other stuff on every occasion but Father's Day is very special to him so I decided to gave him something that he would really feel that IT IS Father's Day.

The shirt that I gave him says" New Dad 2009 and proud to be". I ordered it online and expedite the shipping so I would have it before Sunday. I also bought him a digital photo keychain because I know that he likes to show and share pictures of Zac ( and me :D ) to his friends and co-nurses.

I am glad that hubby was happy with the simple gifts I gave him. Yes, my gift wasn't expensive but they were meaningful and most importantly, hubby loved them.

America's Got Talent 2010

I like watching this TV show. There are lots of talented people here in the US and I can't count on my fingers on how many are my bets in this season. I mean it is hard for me to choose on who is the "bestest" among the best. One of my bet is this group of dancers named "Wreckless". They are a group dancers who didn't had any professional training in dancing. They just dance their hearts out. I can see in them that they really love on what they are doing. That dancing is their number one passion in life. I was actually touched when all of them had tears of joy after performing infront of the crowd.

Here is the video of their performance last night.

Protecting What’s Important

Post written by Andre Michaels.

We have had some serious break-ins lately on our block. What we have done is started a program of taking turns watching the street from inside our homes. That precaution is also one of common sense since we do not want the owner of the suspicious cars or pedestrians to see us in case we call the police and they pick them up. You might say that it is a new world type of neighborhood watch as we don't have monthly meetings or even tell anyone about our program.

More than one of our homeowners has installed a Home Security Alarm system. The cost is something that some of us are not able to afford at this time. Some of the people on the block are also suspicious of the companies that run security alarm systems. Before we began our program of taking turns watching the street discreetly, most of the homes that had break-ins were located next to homes that had Home Security Alarm Systems.

Aside from our discreet block watchers program, many of the neighbors have fixed their outdoor lightingand make sure that their homes are well lit at night.

Seniors on the go with GPS

Guest post written by Tim Wilkes

After I became a senior citizen in the eyes of the law, I decided that sitting around my house all day just wouldn’t cut it anymore. There’s still so much out there to see, even in my own area that I’ve never laid eyes on and I knew that a portable GPS systems would help me achieve that.

I found one with a large touch screen that I could enter in the address to my desired destination on, and it ended up being pretty easy to use. But I found out early that it’s best not to mess with the device when you’re actually driving because I almost ran into the back of another car at a traffic light one day when I was trying to hold the device closer to my ear so I could hear it better. That’s when I thought I might need Hearing Aids.

I asked my daughter to help me out and she made me an appointment and I got fitted with a pair and found that I didn’t even have to turn the volume on my GPS as far as it would go just to hear the directions! Since then I’ve gone on quite a few day trips to landmarks near my town and have enjoyed living my life to the fullest.

Wii Sports Resort

Hubby was so happy when he showed me the new Wii games that he bought. He said that he bought it for me. I love the thought that he remembered me, but the truth is, I don't have time in playing computer games specially that our son needs more attention now because he likes grabbing all the stuff around him.

This Wii Sports Resort that he bought has a bonus Wii Motion Plus. I am hoping that playing this game would help me get back into shape LOL! He also bought Wii Resident Evil. I like the movie but I don't know if I will like the game. I'll just tell you guys what I think about these games after I played them (that's if I have time to play them).

Keeping safe in Dallas, TX

This guest post wrote by Alfred Toober

In many large cities around the country crime is a serious issue. But many of us try and find ways that will help us keep our homes and family safe.

First off, check with your home owner's insurance company to make sure that you have coverage on all your property. Remember, material items can be replaced. Many people place far too much value on things that you can't take with you when you leave this earth.

Check your neighborhood to see if a neighborhood watch program has been implemented. The better we know our neighbors, the better off we all are. If you are new in a neighborhood, get to know the people that live right next door. Make friends with the little ol' couple across the street. Make sure one of your neighbors is home all day. It is nice to know, if they are, they are probably going to watch things that go on in the neighborhood.

Today, however, many people stay to themselves. Even in Dallas, where everyone gets along and such, there is still a part of us that stays hidden even from our neighbors. Since our society has changed, this has changed us and the way we feel and think about other around us. We have lost a level of trust. It is time to strike back and get to know those you live next door to.

Yes, even here in Dallas, there are crime problems, but by taking the right precautions, we will all be better off. If you still feel unsafe, there are quite a few ADT Security alarm system Lubbock locations around the city that can help find you the best solution possible for your home. First off, there are several national companies that work really well and have some of the best state-of-the art alarm systems around. ADT is one of the leaders in a lot of major cities and right here in Dallas it is certainly no slouch. It is always a good idea to, of course, shop around and see who has the best reputation in town and the best service available. Ask your neighbors and friends who they may have their alarm systems through.

If you find this too expensive, be sure to do the first thing and get to know your neighbors and next see about getting some pets. Dogs are great at helping keeping people that don't belong in your yard away. Many dogs are quite sensitive and can pick up on bad people. They will alert you and your neighbors to a problem that may be going on. You can even have more than one dog for additional protection. Obedience training can be a far more economical cost over an alarm system.

MTV Movie Awards 2010

I watched MTV Movie Awards 2010 last night. I can say that the highlight of the night is when Sandra Bullock went to stage to get his Generation Award trophy. She had a stand up ovation when she reached the stage. She truly deserve to have that award as she showed as what she can contribute to the movie industry. She can be in funny, action, drama and romantic-comedy. Another highlight of the night is when she surprised everybody by kissing Scarlett Johansson.

RIP Rue McClanahan

I am saddened by the death of Rue McClanahan. She died today due to stroke. She is my favorite character in the show "Golden Girls". I so love the show and I watched it every time I can catch the show at night and whenever I have time. My husband is the one who introduce that show to me. At first I didn't like it because the show is kinda old already but then the show made me laugh as it goes by. At the end, I end up waiting on its time slot to watch it.

Rue's character in the show is Blanche Devereaux, a funny vain woman who can't live without men. She really made me laugh. I am really sad about this news. May she rest in peace.

Here is the news I read on CNN website.

Emmy-winning "Golden Girls" actress Rue McClanahan died of a stroke in a New York hospital early Thursday, her manager said. She was 76.

McClanahan, who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage last Monday, was surrounded by family when she died at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, according to manager Barbara Lawrence.

The actress' career began on the New York stage in the 1950s, but her long television career was first boosted when producer Norman Lear cast McClanahan in his hit CBS series "All in the Family" in 1971. She appeared in Lear's "Maude" a year later.

Her most memorable TV role was as Southern belle Blanche Devereaux on "The Golden Girls," which ran from 1985 through 1992. McClanahan won an Emmy for best lead actress in a comedy in 1987.

Betty White is the last surviving member of the four "Golden Girls" stars.

"Rue was a close and dear friend," White said Thursday. "I treasured our relationship. It hurts more than I even thought it would, if that's possible."

Estelle Getty passed away in 2008, and Bea Arthur died last year.

McClanahan requested that no funeral be held for her, but memorial services will be announced for later this summer in New York and Los Angeles, California, Lawrence said.

Fans can pay their respects online, a family statement said.

"Please join us in celebrating Rue's amazing life" by visiting a memorial page established for her on Facebook, the family said.

McClanahan's last comedic TV role was in an episode of Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns," taped in 2009.

She carried the Devereaux character to three other TV series, including "The Golden Palace," "Empty Nest" and "Nurses."

She was married six times and had one child. Her son, Mark Bish, was born in 1958 during a brief first marriage.

Her present marriage to Morrow Wilson, starting in 1997, was her longest. Her book "My First Five Husbands ... And the Ones Who Got Away" was published in 2007.

McClanahan was born in Healdton, Oklahoma, on February 21, 1934, to parents with Scottish and native American heritage.

Kitchen cabinets keep me organized

Guest post from my neighbor Barb Tattio

Kitchen cabinets are some of the most used part of any kitchen. My kitchen cabinets by sears act as a base for a countertop as well as providing adequate storage for all of your kitchen belongings. Kitchen cabinets come in a variety of colors and styles that allowed me to select a cabinet for what I am going to use it for.

I was happy to know that I could customize my cabinets for my needs. Drawer base cabinets offer a great storage solution for utensils, knifes, washcloths, and dish towels. They store everything in one location, which is convenient for me when you I am in the kitchen and need to clean off the counter space and select a knife to prepare my foods for dinner. Sink base cabinets offer adequate storage for all of your pots and pans, right below the sink. This is extremely helpful when putting my dishes away after washing.

Overhead cabinets can provide great storage for wine bottles, and dishes for your food. These make them easily accessible while standing and keep them out of reach of small children. Over head cabinets can also act as a decorative asset if in my kitchen as I selected glass doors for the cabinet front. This allows me to beautifully display my most precious chine collection.

I am so happy to know that my kitchen cabinets allowed me to organized all of my kitchen belongings and house them away beautifully.
