It is hard to maintain a good credit now because of the economy we have. In fact, most of the people I know lost their job and some declared bankruptcy. It is hard breaking to see people who worked hard to have a house and cars that are now being sold by them because of being laid-off, and some downgraded their lifestyle because of the bad economy. What hurts is, some people that lost their job need to sell their house because they can't pay their mortgage and they are having hard time looking for a company that will give them mortgage loan because of their bad credit.
Not all company who offers housing loan requires individual who wants to own a house a high down payment. If you would look around and do some research, there are some companies who would only require you to deposit low down payment and offers refinance.
